Private Jet charter to Saint Barths

One of the most popular destinations among our clients is also one of the most logistically challenging: Saint-Barthélemy.
Recently, we arranged the transport of a family traveling there on vacation from Europe aboard a Global Express. Below, we share more details about this trip — which, with the help of an expert like Eurosky, presents no difficulty at all.

Saint-Barthélemy Airport: Restrictions for Private Jet Flights

The Saint-Jean–Gustave III Airport (now renamed Rémy de Haenen Airport) is located on the Caribbean island of Saint-Barthélemy, part of the Lesser Antilles.

It has a single, very short runway (650 meters), which only allows operations with aircraft under 5 tons, typically turboprops.

The approach to this airport is quite “sporty,” with the runway flanked by the sea on one side and a mountain on the other. A special qualification is required for pilots to operate there.

What Types of Aircraft Operate From/To Saint-Barthélemy Airport?

Because of the short runway, only propeller aircraft can operate flights to and from Saint-Barth:

  • Britten-Norman Islander (8 seats): The classic twin-engine island hopper. Its cabin is somewhat basic, but its efficiency is unmatched.

  • Cessna Grand Caravan (7–8 seats): Can carry up to 7 passengers and 200 kg of luggage. A staple for inter-island operations and perfectly suited for Saint-Barth.

  • Pilatus PC-12: Originally designed for the Swiss Army, this aircraft can take off and land on short runways. It combines comfort and efficiency for private travelers.

  • De Havilland Twin Otter: This aircraft can accommodate up to 19 passengers and is ideal for group transfers.

How to Reach Saint-Barthélemy  by Private Jet

A direct flight from Europe or the United States ( except FL coast) to Saint-Barthélemy would require an aircraft weighing well over the 5-ton limit — for example, a Falcon 8X has a landing weight of more than 28 tons.

That’s why we use Princess Juliana Airport (IATA: SXM) in Saint Maarten, whose longer runway can handle large jets. Many travelers will recognize it from the famous photos of KLM Boeing 747s landing just above the beach.

From Saint Maarten, we arrange your final transfer to Saint-Barthélemy, and there are two options:

✈️ By Air

Many operators offer private 15-minute transfers aboard turboprop aircraft such as the Twin Otter or Cessna Caravan, or even Single helicopters. We will advise you on the best choice for your itinerary.

🚤 By Sea

You can also take a speedboat operated by one of several companies. Departures are usually from Simpson Bay, with a crossing time of around 30 minutes, depending on sea conditions.

Do You Need to Change Terminals in Saint Maarten for Your Connection to Saint-Barth?

Upon your arrival — whether by private or commercial flight — our meet-and-greet team in Saint Maarten will assist you with your connection.
At the Transfer Desk in the new Arrivals Hall, our staff will welcome you and guide you to your next boarding gate while we handle your luggage transfer to your connecting aircraft bound for Saint-Barth.

If you’re flying on a Grand Caravan, Britten-Norman, or Twin Otter, you won’t need to change terminals. Departures take place directly from the main terminal after checking in at the transfer counter — and do not go through immigration.

However, if you’ve chosen a Pilatus PC-12, you’ll need to clear immigration at SXM before boarding from the business aviation terminal (FBO) of Saint Maarten.
